The flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular flights across the Himalayas. This journey offers spectacular views of Bhutan and an exciting landing in the kingdom. The first gift from Bhutan will be the cool, clean and refreshing mountain air as you step off the plane. Meet and greet our representative upon arrival, and depart for Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, stopping at Chuzom, the confluence of the Thimpu and Paro rivers on the way. Arrive Thimpu, check-in at the hotel. Thimpu is a unique city with an unusual blend of ancient traditions as well as modern development. In the evening take an exploratory walk around the Thimpu city center. Spend the night at the hotel in Thimpu. (altitude 2,320 m)
After breakfast, go for a local sightseeing tour and visit Simtokha Dzong - a monastery built in 1627 which today houses the Institute of Language and Cultural Studies. Then visit the Memorial Chorten - the most visible religious structure in Thimpu and the Buddha View Point. The view of the valley at this point is as spectacular as the statue of Lord Buddha located in the complex. Later visit the Takin Mini Zoo, which houses the Takin - the national animal of Bhutan which looks like a mix of a cow and a goat. Legend has it that it was created by the great Buddhist yogi Drupa Kunley. This animal is native to Bhutan and its surrounding areas. Then head to the prominent Tashichho Dzong
After breakfast, drive to the Dochu-la pass (3,088 m/10,130 ft). Later drive to Punakha. Check in at hotel on arrival. In the afternoon visit the Punakha Dzong or 'Palace of Great Happiness or Bliss', built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal at the confluence of the Phochu and Mochu rivers. It measures approximately 600 by 240 ft and has a six-storey, gold-domed tower. Inside are courtyards and religious statues that reflect the depth of history and spiritual tradition here. After exploring Punakha city centre, spend the night at hotels in Chimi Lhakhang Punakha and Wangdue.
A beautiful hike takes one to the regal Khamsum Yuelley Namgel Chorten (approx 2 hours round trip walk), which was built to remove negative forces and promote peace, stability and harmony in the changing world. Post lunch, visit to Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang (Nunnery). Perched on a ridge amid pine trees and overlooking valleys of Punakha and Wangdu gleams Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup temple. Then drive on to Talo village. The beautiful village of Talo (alt. 2,800m) which is scattered along the hill slopes, known for its cleanliness and hygiene among Punakha villages. The beautiful farm houses of the village have its own flower gardens and on the hill slope corns and sweet peas are grown in abundance. Also visit Talo Sangnacholing, built on a plateau and has majestic view of surrounding villages. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha & Wangdue.
After breakfast return to Paro descending from Dochu La. Check in at the hotel, later visit Ta Dzong, originally built as a watchtower, which now houses the National Museum. Then walk the trail to see Rinpung Dzong, meaning ("Fortress of the Pile of Gems"), which has a long and fascinating history. The inner courtyard has wooden galleries with beautiful wall paintings depicting Buddhist lore such as the Four Friends, the Old Man of Longevity, the Wheel of Life, scenes from Milarepa's life, Mount Sumeru and other cosmic mandalas. In the evening take a stroll through the interesting city center of Paro. Spend the night at a hotel in Paro.
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, visit the famous Tiger's Nest Temple, also known as Mandir or Taksang Monastery. One of the most famous Bhutanese monasteries, it is said that Guru Rinpoche came here on the back of a tigress and meditated at the monastery. Located on the edge of a 1200-meter-high cliff, this monastery is an impressive sight and the unofficial symbol of Bhutan. Note that the climb will take about 2 hours, so it is recommended that you wear comfortable walking shoes and have a light snack with water. There is also an option to ride a horse from the parking lot to the monastery. Alternatively, you can also walk for about an hour to reach a cafeteria - a wooden tea-house restaurant that offers a good view of the monastery. After that exciting excursion, visit a local farmhouse and get a glimpse of the daily life of a typical Bhutanese family. Here, you can participate in the national sport of Bhutan - archery. Take pictures wearing Bhutan's national dress (Gho and Kira) and also drink Ara, a local drink made from rice. In the evening, you will be dropped at the hotel where dinner and a comfortable overnight stay will be arranged at the end of the day.
After having breakfast at the hotel, proceed to the airport for flight to your next destination. Our representative will help you with the exit formalities and then bid you farewell.
